Default Katherine, Australia floods

Ah the first WorldWide Weather discussion thread!

The crocodile infested Katherine River has burst its banks for the 2nd "100 year event" in 8 years.

Click here for information of the 1998 flood event

And this recent ABC.net.au article gives some details of the current (2006) flood situation.

The crocs are becoming a problem:

Quote:
Croc hunt continues in flooded Katherine
Friday Apr 7 13:37 AEST
A ranger is on the hunt for dangerous saltwater crocodiles which may have swum into the flooded Northern Territory town of Katherine.
...
A freshwater crocodile attacked a teenage boy trapped in a tree by the floods, but he suffered only minor injuries.
Full NineMSN article - the crocs are swimming down the main streets of Katherine. (and I will say it before anyone else does - Crikeys - there, the very old statement is made).

Steve Irwin is an actor/croc hunter from south-east Queensland (over 1500km from the floods)... in a population of 20 million there are a few more croc hunters - and about 20+ are in the affected area now.

The best thing to do is to wait for the water to subside as the Katherine River is the croc's habitat
