Default Time period for measuring daily lows

Hi. My father takes daily readings of the high and low temperatures at his house, and he told me that he thought a properly recorded daily low temperature had to occur in the morning. IOW, he thought that if the lowest temperature of the day occurred at, say, 11:55 p.m., then you really wouldn't count that as the low. So, what I would like to know is whether a standard daily low is the absolute minimum temperature for a 24-hour period, or whether it indeed does have to occur somewhat early in the day. Thanks for any help.

Neptune, Officially it has to occur within that 24 hour period for that day. From 12:00am to 11:59pm. Anything that is recorded outside of that time period goes towards the next day.

If the low temperature occurs at 11:55pm, then that is the low temperature for the day.
