I wish I could have started a thread in Storm Center. People want to know about surface features. We all grew up with the weatherman on TV talking about a Low pressure area somewhere moving somewhere and this will happen.
The reality is our atmosphere is thick. Storms form at different levels. Weather patterns are on a grand scale. Midlevel storms form their surface celebrities. Most of the time they move along quiet nicely with their surface features. Sometimes they stall and spit out little weaves along stalled boundaries. These can be the most devastating in reality. This has been going on for the last 4 days. The mid level storm has moved down the coast of Californian and is now off the coast of Baja Mexico. The next surface wave will move out of Texas today. First the high pressure area must move East. This will start a southerly wind flow in west Texas and Kansas. This will allow the atmosphere to modify. Remember when water goes from a liquid to a solid it releases heat into the atmosphere. Temps will craw above freezing. When water goes from a solid to a liquid, “Melting” It cools the atmosphere 33 and 36 F will be popular numbers. As the mid level disturbance moves across Mexico High pressure will fill down the east slopes of the Rockies. Cold air will return south. The next wave begins and the next round. Detailed forecast to follow. Dyndrite |

Round 4
Moisture returns Cold air digs south. Quick hitting ice storm N Kansas, Iowa, N Missouri. Including Marshal county. Monday night and Tuesday moderate to heavy precipitation will fall in this area. Surface temperatures will be below freezing, upper 20’s to around 30. What makes this so bad is temperatures for the last week in the single didgets in Iowa to teens just south. Driving will be hazardous. Freezing will be instant. Surface temps will be below the air temps. Ice accretions will be above ½ inch. Prepare to lose power . Inhibit driving unless it is an emergency Precip will begin in Marshall county between 3 am and 6 am. Dyndrite |
