At the current time a potential Ice storm for Northern Georgia, NW South Carolina and Western North Carolina. The precip could start as a period of snow.

The mountains of North Carolina, Virginia, and the piedmont of Virginia could receive significant snow.

Christmas Storm taking shape.

Stronger and further north this run. Good news for ice in the mid Atlantic, bad news for Heavy snow Great Lakes, including Detroit and New England.

Residents of Ill., East Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pa and NY should monitor local forecast on this developing Winter Storm

Christmas storm up-date

Looks like the Christmas Storm will be split into several parts. This seems to be the pattern this year. Several impulses before the main energy exit’s the Southern Rockies.

Low pressure develops Christmas Eve Southern Texas. Rain in east Texas. Light snow and flurries in the North Central areas of Oklahoma. Light snow NE Oklahoma, Extreme Northern Arkansas, Southern Missouri. Late Christmas Eve.

Christmas day this first impulse runs out of gas and dissipates as an area of rain showers on the gulf coast, Snow showers or flurries in North Missouri, Southern Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Late Christmas day

Late Christmas day second Storm forms on stalled front in Gulf of Mexico proper. Snow develops in NW Texas Southern Kansas. The long and short of it is this storm will transverse the southern US and Deepen off the coast Of New England on Friday of next week.

The current upper air flow is in a major warming mode. This is not reflected in surface temps with the cold ground and snow pack that is receding. This type of pattern is conducive to heavy wet snow that is occurring today in New England and will occur in Minnesota and Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday..

With that December sun at its lowest point rapid cooling aloft can generate heavy snow. As we say this time of year storms can generate their own cold air.

Stay tuned.
