Default Dangerous Situation Developing SE

Areas of NE Ga., Upstate SC and Western NC could be in for a Dangerous scenario early Tuesday.

The next 36-48 hours will be the coldest of the season. As Modified Artic High pressure moves to the coast a hybrid High pressure may develop in the East side of the mountains. Moisture will return to area as a light snow changing to sleet and freezing rain.

This is not the normal scenario as the roads and ground will be at or below freezing. Any rain or drizzle that falls will freeze on contact with exposed surfaces. Untreated roads will be extremely dangerous. Will up-date

Light Freezing Drizzle/Rain event for Tuesday still threatening the SE. Latest models are hinting at a trof or weak area of low pressure developing off the coast of SC. If this happens and a light NE winds develops on the east side of the Appalachian Mountains then the changeover to Rain will be hard over the western Carolinas and NE Ga.

A cold front will press South and through the area Wednesday. A secondary Artic Front, the last in a series will push south with temps again struggling to get above freezing under sunny skies Thursday and Friday. Next weekend could bring a mix to start then a couple of days of cloudy, foggy cold conditions as the warm air passes over head a stagnate cold pool at the surface.

Looks like a light freezing drizzle event will produce dangerous driving conditions in the SE late tonight and Tuesday. Precipitation SHOULD change to regular rain by afternoon in the western Carolinas. Temperatures will struggle to get above freezing with highs of 33-35.

Winds go calm during this event. The trof over the SE will wait the arrival of an Artic front early Thursday. Things may get interesting in Eastern NC and Virginia especially along the coast and outer banks. Coastal Low may try and form along the Artic Front at the base of a strong 500 Mb vortmax.

This will result in snow flurries in western NC, Snow 1-2 inches in the mountains of NC and Va. Snow showers or a period of light snow along the NC and Virginia Coast. Temperatures will fall into the 20’s during the day on Thursday.

Friday morning will be the coldest of the period, about 3-5 degrees colder than this morning.

Tricky forecast for the South East and Mid Atlantic next 72 hours.

Patchy light freezing drizzle is showing on Radar over Central NC/SC. Sleet is reported in Goldsboro NC. As Trof has formed along the NC coast. An area of Low pressure has developed off the coast of SC.

Rain and a few Sleet pellets are moving into Eastern Tennessee. Dew points in upstate SC and West NC are in the single digits and skies are overcast. Cold be a bout of Freezing Rain and Sleet mid Morning across Western NC/SC.

Looks like there is still a threat of a coastal Low Thursday. Snow flurries western areas and 1-2 inches of Snow possible Southeastern Virginia

Looks like some heavier Sleet and freezing rain showers showing up in central and Eastern NC. No advisories in this area. Oh, well, we take it on the chin again

Advisories have just been issued for Raleigh. That is window forecasting at its best, look out the window and adjust the forecast

I think that’s the way the next seven days are going to be.

Looks like parts of eastern Tennessee are in for a bout of Freezing rain as well. Precip amounts are a lot heavier and further East than any of the models forecast.

27F with Sleet and freezing Rain shower 20 miles WSW of GSO

The main precip band has moved over the mountains. At 3PM it is cloudy and 32.9F, the high for today. Areas close to the foothills could still see some freezing rain. In these situations weather can be very local.

Up-date on Thursday system about 5.

No real change for Thursday system except heavier snow a little further up the coast.

After a chilly cloudy weekend, major warm up for most of the country with Rain in the Great lakes area, wow, strap in.

As far as the weekend winter precipitation event. Maybe some light sleet and rain to start if early enough, but it is really not looking like a major problem. Things can and do change. Stay tuned.
