Lot going on in the weather department. Figured I would give an up-date on the Artic Storm this weekend being as I stuck my neck out already.

Artic Surge moves into the High plains of Montana. Late Friday. Cold wave warnings should be issued. Temps falling 30-40 degrees with Artic frontal passage. Winds increase NW 25-35 mph gust to 45. Ground Blizzard conditions.

This move rapidly SE with Snow and blowing snow with localized ground blizzard conditions Iowa, Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, by Saturday. A gentle breeze out of the NW at 30-40 mph gust to 50, Temps falling below Zero, Storm warnings will be issued for lakes.

Snow totals will be 2-4 inches but I think it will be hard to tell. The Lake effect snow with this system will be impressive as local amounts in Michigan and NY State could be locally 2FT.

Up-date

Artic Air posed to head South and East late today. Montana and Northern Wyoming will get hit first with prolonged period of upslope Snow. Snow and Blowing Snow will accompany front through Iowa and Wisconsin. The snow will be light 1-2 inches but bitter wind chills and blowing snow well after frontal passage. Heavy Lake effect in Michigan with synoptic snow will produce local accumulations of 12-24 inches in the Lake enhanced bands.

Snow will develop SE rapidly as Secondary Low forms off East coast. Snow will develop Pa., Appalachians, NY State and Tri-State area. 1-4 inches.

Current Advisories

Winter Storm Warnings, High Wind Warnings for Montana. Blizzard Watches out For North Dakota western Minnesota. Blizzard Watches for UP of Michigan and Northern Michigan

This the First of three systems associated with this mid level trof. Low pressure will form again in Colorado on Monday and move NE. We will watch this one. Cold air will be in place in the Midwest and Warm Gulf air will head North.
