Complicated Storm developing in the South. Disturbance in The Gulf of Mexico moving East and up the coast. Artic Air in Ohio Valley and Mid Atlantic.
Ice Storm Conditions are setting up along the Ohio River. Some locales could receive a devastating Ice Storm with up to 1 inch of Ice. A band of 2-4 inches of snow in Ohio then sleet. I have been watching this develop and scratching my head all day. A lot of pieces and expect conditions to change rapidly as the Storm comes together in North Carolina and moves NNE. Heavy Snow could develop in NC mountains, West Va., Pa. As Main Storm moves NE on Wednesday. Second Storm develops in the gulf this weekend and brings Snow and Ice to the South Dyndrite |

Major Ice Storm Conditions From Arkansas, S. Mo., Ill., Kentucky and S. Ohio.
Cold air continues to funnel south off the Midwest Ice-cap. Squall line in Texas moving SE. Looks like straight line winds only with SW to NE orientation. Pieces of the puzzle come together today with regards to the East Coast. Artic high over New England will break down. The question is how much? How far will mid-level trof move east when Gulf energy moves North? How Strong will Storm be when it moves off Hatteras? And about 100 other questions. We will have a good idea how much snow vs. Mix for the NE. Dyndrite |

18 degrees and freezing rain in Springfield Ill. Now that’s what you call a warm nose.
Snow starting to pick up in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin as mid-level Storm moves East out of Iowa. Looks like Thunder and Ice in the south again. Trof should pivot and become North- South. The Misery factor will be high in the Ohio valley with all eyes looking to how unstable it gets in Alabama and Mississippi. Stay tuned folks could get ugly this afternoon and tonight. Still uncertain how Gulf of Mexico energy will phase in as system heads into New England. Dyndrite |

Now lets get back to this mess.
Looks like Freezing rain is changing back to Snow Southern Ill and southern Missouri. I hope for a rapid transition to impede Ice accretion . Still ¼ to ¾ inch in isolated areas possible Southern Ohio and Pa.. Light to moderate snow in Pa. will mix with and change to freezing rain. Snow in NY State could approach 10-12 inches. Gulf energy is still the wild card. Secondary storm off Hatteras could produce Rain changing to Snow in Central Virginia and North Carolina on exit. That would include, Winston- Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Raleigh, Emporia Va. and Richmond. Va. Snow Showers develops Mountains of NC, Va. And West Va. 1-2 inches up top. Dyndrite |

Just a note.
All models were 15 degrees to warm on the eastern slopes. That’s what we call a major, ”BUST.” The Appalachian wedge still kicks your ***. Dyndrite |

It seems to be happening with every winter storm this season. Especially these freezing rain events. Im not even convinced yet that central new jersey gets above freezing until late morning Wednesday. It'll be an hour by hour situation.

Yes Sir,
Down here it is topography and wind trajectory. If I can remember and that is a stretch. It would be sea surface temps and wind trajectory in New Jersey. Dyndrite |
