Default President’s Day Storm Threatening.

I don’t get the chance to talk about Winter Storms in the South, I think we all remember the presidents day Storm . I was there.

This weekend we will have the coldest air of the year moving South and East. The last Artic Storm produced temps of -37 in the International falls Minnesota region. The next bout will produce lows of -25 as far south as South Dakota and Northern Iowa. Temps of -40 to -45 along the border Friday Morning.

At the same time a strong Mid-level disturbance will move East out of the Southern Rockies. Low pressure will develop in the Gulf of Mexico will move ENE along the Gulf Coast.

The models are split on how fast the Energy moves East and how fast the Artic Air moves south. A timing issue for sure as is the case 99.999% of the time in the South. If you guys have been wondering what I was up to I have been taking this thing apart the last three days.

The current Storm will deposit Snow and Ice South of the current Snow Pack in Southern Ill, Indiana, Northern Ohio and Pa. Snow will also fall in West Va. And NC mountains before this Storm. A brief mid-level warm up in advance of Artic frontal passage this weekend but soil temps will be low.

The major questions are Storm track, prcip type and Intensity. The models are split on Track East or South of the Appalachians. All this means to me is Ice or snow. The current Storm is further south and the trend is South as the Core of the Artic air moves south and has made a home at Steve’s House, sorry Steve.

Sometimes a man has just got to make a call. As with any Storm in the South things can change rapidly and make any weatherman look like an idiot.

Old weatherman rule 001- If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck.

Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Va. Northern Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, upstate South Carolina. North Carolina, Virginia should monitor Local Forecast and prepare for Major Winter Storm this Weekend and early next week.

I will post next update at 12 noon

Up-date

New GFS is coming in line. Temp in Greenville-Spartanburg has gone from 70 to 39 Sunday at 7PM EST. that’s what I call cooling.

Latest models are taking storm over Central south Carolina and up the coast. Temps have cooled I suspect they will cool further.

Heavy snow heading your way Martin.
