Impressive Artic push heading East and South. Low pressure will develop in Louisiana and move NE. Main storm forms off Hatteras and moves NE on Friday.
Threat of light snow and sleet changing to freezing rain western Carolinas Thursday night. This SHOULD transition to cold rain on Friday afternoon. Western Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley should prepare for Ice Storm conditions. This Storm is just starting to develop. Positioning of Parent High has changed over last 24 hrs and will probably change again. Alberta Clipper is depositing 1-3 inches of snow over Indiana and Ohio this morning, This may influence placement. Dyndrite |

18Z up-date
Temps are 10-15 degrees colder than forecast in NW Texas and Oklahoma. Artic air bleeding SW into western Texas. Low pressure area over TX/OK border. Low pressure over West Va. Moving East. Good snowfall 2-4 inches Central Indiana and Ohio. Temps 10 degrees colder than progged central Ill. Indiana. Looks like a bad time for Ok, Ark. And Southern Mo. East Coast is still uncertain. Models are all over the place with no dominate surface feature until exit and then still clouds precip and cold till Sunday. Should have a handle tomorrow. A Storm is a brewing. Someone is going to get nailed. Dyndrite |

Storm still in the process of developing this morning. Ice in southern MO, Ill,. Kentucky will be dangerous for sure.
Cold air just starting to entering NC. Winds NNE 15 gust to 20 at 5 am. Models are still no help with positioning of surface features or thermal profiles. What we know, Cold air is shallow and mid level features are weak. Will up-date later this morning when I see how that ridge in Tenn. changes to a trof with Artic air to the north like the models say. I don’t believe it for a minute. Dyndrite |

Thanks Spanky.
Looks like the end of this event is over New Mexico. It would normally go NNE and clobber Iowa and Wisconsin but a strong jet heading SE out of Canada is going to squash it and send it east. Surface Storm is over South East Texas. Thunderstorms are starting to fire up, with lightning and thunder in NW Arkansas. I think thunder and Ice is the theme for this winter. That and more snow in Iowa and Wisconsin than ever recorded. I think this is the key. Surface analysis looks like an occlusion with east winds colliding with west winds over this area. High pressure has formed over Va. And I personally don’t think it is going anywhere. Looks like Rain and freezing rain over the western Carolinas. The 12Z NAM has lost its mind with temps in the mid 50’s over NE Tenn. and upper 50, to near 60 in northern Alabama at 18Z. Will post these conditions at 18Z for spite. 10:26 at my location, WSW of Greensboro, NC Thin overcast Temp 35.8 Dew point 17.4 Wind NE 15 Dyndrite |
